Asplenium Fern Varieties Asplenium is a genus of about 700 species of ferns. You may know the Asplenium as "The Bird's Nest Fern" which grows in a pot or in the ground - even in a hanging basket. The Asplenium antiquum , he's different. The Asplenium antiquum has bright green arching blades with a pointed end and a strong midrib. He can easily be distinguished from the closely related Asplenium nidus by its fronds of uniform width. These plants need filtered light to light shade. Don't expose to direct sun other than the very early morning sun and it's super important to note not to touch, move, or handle the new delicate fronds as they emerge from the nest. They are extremely fragile. If you touch them, there is a high chance of them becoming damaged or deformed. Keep their compost moist, but don't let the plant become soggy. Also, avoid watering right into the "nest" as that encourages mould and rot. Water the soil rather than the plant. We love ferns and if you have a luxury bathroom with indirect light and high humidity they would be fine and dandy right there.
