How Koi Viewing Windows Work A koi viewing window is a laminated tempered glass panel in a stainless steel frame, installed into the wall of a raised or partially raised pond. The window sits flush with the pond wall and is sealed against the pond liner using a compression frame and gasket system. Water pressure holds the seal tight, so properly installed windows become more watertight as the pond fills. Most windows come with a complete mounting kit including the frame, hardware, and sealant needed for installation. Installation Considerations Viewing windows work best in ponds with vertical or near-vertical walls made from concrete block, poured concrete, or reinforced timber. The wall must be structurally sound enough to support the water pressure exerted on the window area. What matters is the wall, not the size of the window: a standard 8" concrete block wall, with roughly 3" of block either side of the opening and the window resting on at least one full course, suits every size we carry.
