Settlement and vortex chambers use gravity and a gentle swirl to drop out heavy solids — leaves, sticks, string algae, and muck — right after the bottom drain, before water moves on to finer filtration. As the first chamber in a multi-stage koi pond filter train, they take the load off downstream sieves, drums, and biofilters.
