About

The mangalsutra, also known as tāḷi, is an unique piece of gold jewellery worn by married Hindu women as a symbol of union and protection. Traditionally, it is given to the bride by her groom on their wedding day and is also considered to be a sign of the groom’s eternal love and commitment. The mangalsutra is usually made using gold and black beads that are said to protect the bride and her family from negative forces. Nowadays, it is available in various designs, sizes, and shapes; some are studded with diamonds or other precious stones.
