Cone lampshades have a pleasing sense of direction about them. They taper neatly, draw the eye upward, and give a lamp a slightly more tailored feel without becoming severe. A cone lampshade can look rather handsome on a slender floor lamp , charming on a small table lamp , and especially useful where you want the shade to feel shaped rather than soft and billowy. The shape is practical as well as decorative. Because cone lampshades narrow towards the top, they can focus light downward while still allowing a warm glow through the fabric or material. That makes them awfully useful for reading corners, bedside tables and smaller spaces where a wide shade would feel a little too much. Cone shades also pair beautifully with layered lighting. Use them on table lamps for a neat pool of light, on floor lamps for height, or with bedroom lighting and hallway lights where a slimmer silhouette is useful. They are modest in footprint, but rather effective in character.
