About
Neutral lampshades are the quiet workers of a room, though quiet needn’t mean dull. A good neutral shade softens the light, calms the scheme and gives the lamp a finished look without asking for all the attention. Cream, stone, oatmeal, natural linen and softer taupe shades are particularly good at making a room feel settled, especially when the texture is doing some of the talking. The usefulness of a neutral lampshade lies in how comfortably it works with almost everything. It can sit on table lamps in a bedroom , add ease to floor lampshades in a living room , or make ceiling lampshades feel soft rather than stark. Neutral does not have to mean plain, either. Pleats, gathered fabric , scalloped edges and woven textures all add interest while keeping the overall mood calm. They are also rather brilliant when you are mixing different styles of lighting. A neutral shade can connect a vintage lamp with more modern lighting, or soften rustic pieces without making the room feel too country. If you want a scheme that feels warm, layered and easy to live with, neutral lampshades are very often the right place to start.
