Mounted above or beside the frame, a picture wall light creates a gentle wash across the surface rather than lighting the whole room. It is a simple idea, but rather effective at making a wall feel properly considered. Proportion is the useful bit to get right. A small picture light suits a compact frame or narrow arrangement, while a large picture light can spread illumination more evenly across wider artwork. The finish can either relate to the frame or provide contrast: brass brings warmth, black feels crisp, and softer metallics sit quietly against many wall colours.
