About
Red lampshades have presence, there is no getting around it. But presence needn’t mean drama of the theatrical sort. The right red lampshade can be warm, earthy, elegant and wonderfully grown-up, bringing a room to life with a glow that feels rich rather than loud. Think terracotta, berry, rust and deep red as much as bright scarlet. Used on table lamps , red shades are particularly good at giving side tables and console tables a proper focal point. On floor lamps , they can warm up a living room corner beautifully. A red ceiling lampshade is a bolder choice, but in the right hallway , bedroom or dining area it can feel rather handsome, especially when the rest of the room is quieter. Red works best when it has something to talk to. Warm woods, aged brass, cream walls, blue textiles, patterned rugs and darker painted furniture can all make a red lampshade feel intentional rather than accidental.
