Seated Liberty Quarter

For over 50 years, America’s quarters bore Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty Seated design – which also appeared on the half dime, dime, half dollar and dollar – although minor changes created five varieties. Struck in 90% silver, the obverse depicts Liberty seated on a rock surrounded by 13 stars. Her left hand holds a liberty cap atop a pole; her right, a shield inscribed liberty. The reverse shows an eagle on an olive branch holding three arrows.
