Nylon is the stronger of the two big synthetics. For a given weight it takes more abrasion and more tearing than polyester, which is why it's the default for pack bodies, high-wear panels, and anything that gets dragged. The tradeoff is that nylon absorbs a little water and stretches when wet, and it fades faster under sustained UV. This is where Cordura Classic 1000D in nylon 6,6 lives, alongside silicone-coated SilNylon, Diamond Ripstop, and nylon-faced laminates like X-Pac VX21 and UltraGrid.
