What is a chaise lounge? A chaise lounge is a sofa with an extended seat on one end – long enough to fully stretch out. You get the comfort of a daybed with the everyday functionality of a sofa. Most of our chaise sofas come in left-hand or right-hand configurations (based on which side the chaise falls when you're facing the sofa), and many are part of a modular range, so you can reconfigure as your space changes. Which side should I choose? Stand facing where the sofa will sit and think about which side you naturally want to put your feet up. If the chaise end will be near a walkway, choose the side that keeps it out of the traffic path. In open-plan spaces, a chaise can also do double duty as a soft divider between the lounge and dining area. Can I switch the chaise from one side to the other? On modular chaise sofas, yes – the chaise section can usually be repositioned. On fixed-frame styles, the configuration is set at purchase, so it's worth mapping your room layout before you decide. How much space does a chaise sofa need? Account for the full depth of the chaise, which extends further than a standard sofa seat. As a guide, leave at least 90cm of clear walkway around the lounging end so the room still feels open. What's the difference between a chaise sofa and a corner sofa? A chaise sofa has one extended seat, designed for stretching out. A corner sofa turns 90 degrees and seats more people along two sides of the room. Go with a chaise if lounging is the priority; a corner sofa if you need maximum seating. Can a chaise lounge divide an open-plan room? Absolutely. Positioning the chaise end outward lets the sofa act as a natural boundary between your lounge and dining or kitchen zone, no wall required.
