EarthQuaker Devices, founded in 2004 by musician Jamie Stillman, started as a passion project and has since evolved into a renowned brand within the music industry. Hailing from Akron, Ohio, this company has a colorful history spanning over two decades. Known for their innovative effects pedals , EarthQuaker Devices has been breaking boundaries and setting new standards for musicians worldwide. During its early years, Stillman operated the Donut Friends record label, releasing over fifty records and garnering a cult following. His foray into pedal design began after successfully repairing a broken overdrive, sparking an obsession with circuit design. He started selling his unique builds on eBay while working day jobs. By 2007, Stillman released the Hoof fuzz pedal, which quickly gained traction through online forums and word-of-mouth, allowing him to focus on EarthQuaker Devices full-time. The initial EarthQuaker Devices, like the Hoof, Grand Orbiter, Disaster Transport, Hummingbird, and Ghost Echo, were handcrafted in the basement of Stillman's home. As demand grew, he transformed his basement into a full-fledged pedal factory, employing a team of nine people who built hundreds of pedals every week. However, as orders continued to soar, it became evident that a larger workspace was needed. In 2011, Stillman's wife Julie Robbins joined the company as CEO, bringing her experience in talent management and finance. Together, they found a new home for EarthQuaker Devices in an abandoned glass factory and later, an automotive paint warehouse. Today, the company occupies a 15,000 sq. ft. building, providing a permanent space for 40+ employees and the production of 40+ devices. EarthQuaker Devices' mission is to create unique, user-friendly effects pedals that inspire musicians and nurture their creativity.
