Kingfisher Double Braid Rope Double braid rope is the term most yacht owners and riggers use for what Kingfisher call Braid on Braid: a rope made from a braided polyester core inside a braided polyester cover. Both names describe the same construction. Kingfisher's double braid is the rope you'll find on the sheets, halyards and control lines of cruising yachts up and down the UK coast, and it's the line we recommend most often for general boat work. What makes a good double braid is the relationship between the cover and the core. Kingfisher's version uses 100% polyester for both, with the rope heat set under load after braiding to lock out most of the working stretch. Around 3.7% stretch at 20% of break load is typical, which keeps halyards taut and sheets responsive without the cost or complexity of a Dyneema core. Double braid is easy to splice with a fid, which matters if you make up your own eye splices for shackle attachments or sail attachments. It's also kind on hands compared to harder racing covers, which is why so many yacht owners stick with it for primary sheets. Sold by the metre with one continuous length per order.
