Sharpening knives is a key part of regular maintenance that keeps them in good condition. You can use either the manual knife sharpeners that we have in our collection or opt for electric knife sharpeners. Manual knife sharpeners are tops, in our book! KNIFE SHARPENING Every time you use one of your kitchen knives, you dull the blade just a little bit. While you can send the blades out for sharpening, using a knife sharpening kit at home is a nice alternative. Manual knife sharpeners are often more affordable and portable than electric sharpeners. Plus, electric knife sharpeners can remove more metal than manual options if used improperly, potentially shortening the lifespan of knives. TYPES OF KNIFE SHARPENERS Tools for sharpening knives include whetstones , as well as rods, pull through knife sharpeners and rolling knife sharpeners. These knife sharpeners all have benefits and work on professional and home kitchen knives, making sure you don't have to deal with dull blades. WHETSTONE Whetstones are stones that come in different grits to help you add a fine or sharp edge to your knife's edge / blade. You always use them with water to prevent damage to the knife. Whetstones require a learning curve and practice to master, but they can produce excellent results (better than any electric sharpener can provide). SHARPENING & HONING RODS Honing rods often come in knife sets and give you an easy way to keep your knives sharp. You might hear some people call it a knife-sharpening steel because it uses durable steel. Sharpening Rods, unlike honing rods, are designed for refining the edge of the blade. They effectively remove small nicks and dullness, creating a keen edge. PULL THROUGH KNIFE SHARPENER A three-stage or four-stage knife sharpener functions similarly to a honing rod but has three/four indents along the side.
