About
Grains that speak of the people, the traditions and the terroir . Ancient and Heritage wheat (heirloom) can create very strong connections between people and places, between plants and earth, between aromas and flavours. A feeling of belonging and a place! “Heritage” Grains are grains that were grown before the introduction of intensive farming in the mid-1900s, while” Ancient” Grains date back to almost 10,000 years ago. Historically, wheat fields often contained multiple varieties. Farmers would save and trade seeds and pass them from generation to generation. Landraces are highly sustainable models with low input requirements and are a key step towards diversity. Today, landrace wheats (locally adapted crop cultivars) that can withstand environmental hardships are practically extinct.
