Types of Weight Plates There are various types of weight plates, unique in construction and material, and each style has different benefits and properties. Olympic Weight Plates An Olympic weight plate is a type of weightlifting equipment designed for use on Olympic barbells, which are standardized barbells used in official weightlifting competitions, including the Olympics. The center hole of an Olympic weight plate is typically 2 inches in diameter, ensuring a snug fit on Olympic bars and minimizing movement and shifting during lifts. Olympic weight plates come in various weights, usually ranging from 5 to 10kgs to 25kg or even more. The plates' varying weights allow athletes and fitness enthusiasts to incrementally increase their lifting weights, aiding in progressive overload—a key principle for muscle growth and strength gains. The SMAI Competition Bumper Plates are engineered for performance, safety, and precision. Featuring an advanced rubber compound and a nickel-plated steel disc centre, they deliver a true ‘dead-blow’ effect—minimising bounce on impact and ensuring greater safety for users and bystanders. Protective rubber flanges provide better handling and increase surface area at the point of contact. Each plate is finished in a matte texture with raised lettering for a secure grip, and adheres to the official IWF colour scheme. With a precisely machined 50.4mm collar opening, the SMAI Competition Bumper Plates fit snugly onto all IWF and SMAI barbells, ensuring minimal slop and smooth loading. Shop
