Fungo Bats A fungo bat is the most important tool in a coach's equipment bag. It is longer and lighter than a standard bat, built specifically for hitting ground balls and fly balls to fielders during practice. The thin barrel and reduced weight allow a coach to hit dozens of sharp, accurate fungos per session without the fatigue that would come from swinging a game bat. The L-shape allows the coach to stand behind the frame while delivering the ball through the open side.
