About
St. Florian was a Roman officer in the 3rd century who served in the army of Emperor Diocletian. Stationed in Noricum (modern-day Austria), he was responsible for organizing fire brigades and protecting towns from fires—earning him the title of the first firefighter. When the persecution of Christians began, he refused to renounce his faith, boldly proclaiming his loyalty to Christ. For this, he was scourged and drowned in the Enns River with a stone tied around his neck. His courage and sacrifice made him a powerful patron for those who face danger in their daily work.
