About
Waterproof work trousers (otherwise known as "foul weather trousers") must conform to EN343 to be classified as waterproof. They offer protection from rain, making them suitable for demanding outdoor roles such as road maintenance, dock work, and farming. They are also popular amongst search and rescue workers and oil and gas extraction workers at sea. Waterproof clothing should ideally be breathable, too. This is the second number in the EN343 rating (e.g., 4:4, which is the highest rating). The first number of this rating is its waterproof rating. Remember that poor breathability can lead to you being drenched in sweat, removing the point of the waterproofing! Work waterproof trousers come in different styles, like over-trousers that may have flared legs or zipped gussets for boots, and standard waterproof trousers for everyday wear. Consider also that waterproof trousers often require thermal and/or hi-vis features to offer the proper full protection to the wearer. These trousers also come with wear panels to prevent premature wear, and stretch panels for great movability. Good brands usually give a good indication as to how long the garment will last.
