Carved as One Continuous Piece A stone bench asks to be looked at as much as sat on. Cut from a single block rather than assembled from a seat and separate legs, the whole form, support included, is carved from one continuous piece of marble or travertine, so the grain and the natural weight of the stone run unbroken from one end to the other without a joint in sight. The result is a carved stone bench in the truest sense, seat and support drawn from the same block rather than joined together afterward. A Fixture, Not Furniture In a hallway, an entrance gallery or a garden, a stone bench behaves less like furniture and more like a fixed piece of architecture. It does not shift, wobble or need replacing the way a timber or metal bench eventually does, and it only grows more distinctive over time with the small variations every quarried block carries within it. Designs, Finishes and Custom Sizing Five designs are available as a starting point, from the elongated Corridor built for hallways and entrance galleries to the sculptural Football with its unbroken convex curve, each one carved to order and open to a custom length for the exact space you have in mind. Most clients start from one of these five forms and adjust proportions rather than designing entirely from scratch. Both marble and travertine benches in this collection can be finished polished or honed, and the right choice often comes down to where the piece will live. A honed finish resists slipping better outdoors or in a busy entrance, while a polished surface reads more formal in a gallery or a quiet hallway. We can advise on finish once we know where the bench is headed. Delivery, Installation and Care Because the whole bench, seat and legs, is one piece of stone, moving it into place takes some planning, particularly for longer designs like the Corridor.
