About

More Info Scolecite is a mineral that belongs to the zeolite group of minerals. It was first discovered in 1813 in Scotland, and it was named after the Greek word skolex , which means worm, due to its worm-like appearance under a microscope. Origin India, Iceland, the United States, and Brazil. Physical Properties One of the most distinctive characteristics of scolecite is its crystal structure. It typically forms long, slender prismatic crystals that are often arranged in radiating clusters. It is usually colourless or white with a vitreous lustre and prismatic, radiating crystals. It has a relatively low Mohs hardness of 5 to 5.5. Scolecite is transparent to translucent, and has perfect cleavage in two directions, a conchoidal fracture, and exhibits strong double refraction. Metaphysical Properties Scolecite has been known to assist with mental health issues, specifically with depression and anxiety. It aids individuals who are feeling exhausted by providing nourishment and energy, which encourages physical and mental healing. Scolecite is also a useful stone for those who have trouble sleeping, as it can calm the mind and address the root cause of insomnia.
