All in One Home Gyms for Sale: Three Ways to Cover a Full Week An all in one home gym is a single machine that covers a whole training week without needing a second piece of equipment in the room. There are three quite different machines sold under that name, and the choice between them is the main thing this page is for. Three Kinds of All in One Home Gym, and Who Each One Suits The first kind builds several stations around a built-in weight stack. You get a press station, a lat pulldown, a leg extension and curl, and often a leg press, and you change exercises by moving a pin and adjusting a seat. Nothing gets loaded, nothing needs spotting, and getting the settings right and the stack set takes about fifteen seconds. The second kind is a rack, a Smith bar and a functional trainer in one frame. You still load plates, you still lift a barbell, and the cable side handles the rest. It takes j-cups, spotter arms and the other rack attachments, so it keeps growing after you buy it. The third loads plates rather than a stack. A leverage gym puts each station on its own arm, so the press, the row and the pulldown are each loaded with plates the way a barbell is. It lifts closer to free weights than a pin does, and the weight on any station is whatever you put on it rather than whatever the stack tops out at. Two questions sort them. Do you want to load plates rather than move a pin, and do you want to lift a barbell? If the answer to both is no, the stack machine does more for the space and does it faster. If you want to load plates without balancing a bar, the leverage gym is the one. If you want the barbell itself, the rack combo is the only one of the three that gives you that, and it replaces a power rack and a functional trainer at the same time. Our comparison of a functional trainer versus a Smith machine covers the same ground from the cable side.
