This traditional outfit originated in the Indian subcontinent during the Mughal era and is also referred to as the "Shalwar", "Punjabi suit" and "Jabho" by different regions. The garment was embellished with exquisite embroidery and was synonymous to luxury and grandeur during that period. Many courtesans and members of the Mughal royal family wore these suits as representation of their strong Persian influence.
