Native to the town of Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh, these artisanal weaves are hand-woven with a technique that has been preserved and handed down from the 5th century. The art form was developed under the patronage of the Queen of Malwa, Ahilyabai Holkar. Worn by the women in court and gifted to royal guests, the influence of the region's architecture has been beautifully portrayed in every warp and weft. Truly timeless in appeal, the cotton and silk weaves are distinguished by their unique zari and brocade work.
