What a crystal tree actually is Beads of natural stone threaded onto wire, the wire twisted into branches, the whole thing set into a base. It is sold under several names, crystal tree, gemstone tree, stone tree, healing crystal tree and tree of life, and they all mean the same object. The appeal is optical and it is simple. Cut stone catches light in a way almost nothing else on a shelf does, and because the stone is natural, no two trees are alike. Ours are twelve inches tall and carry around three hundred beads. Amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz, citrine, green jade, lapis lazuli, tiger eye and red jasper. That is the whole range, in one height. Most of the cheap ones are not stone A twelve inch tree can be found online for a few hundred rupees, and at that price the beads are usually dyed glass, resin or acrylic. Ours sit under two thousand, and what separates the two listings is the material rather than the bead count, which is why a bead count on its own tells you very little. If you are comparing, the checks are quick and you can do them on anything that arrives. Natural stone holds cold against the inside of your wrist for several seconds, where glass and resin warm to skin temperature almost at once. Natural stone is never perfectly even, so a tree on which every bead is the same saturated colour has usually been dyed. Hold a bead up to a lamp and look for bubbles that are perfectly round and fixed in place, which is glass rather than mineral. None of that makes a glass tree a bad object. It makes it a different one at a different price, and it is worth knowing which of the two you are buying. What each stone is held to mean Most people arrive here having read that a particular stone does a particular thing, so here is the tradition as it is actually taught, and then the part that usually gets left off. Amethyst is the calm stone in the lore, associated with sleep, meditation and a settled head. It runs violet to deep purple and it is the one most people
