These are symbols, and that is not a technicality Sikhi keeps no idols. The Guru Granth Sahib is the living Guru, and there is nothing in the tradition that gets bathed, dressed, fed or offered flowers. So everything on this page is an emblem or a picture of a place, never a figure to be worshipped, and that distinction is the reason this page reads differently from the rest of this site. If you have arrived here from one of our Hindu collections expecting a murti, this is deliberately not that. You will still see these listed and searched as an Ek Onkar idol for the car dashboard, on our own product pages included, because idol is simply the word the market uses for anything small and metal that sits on a dashboard. It is a search habit rather than a description of what the thing is or how it should be kept. People also search for the same pieces as Punjabi gift items and as Sikhi gifts, and they mean the same three things. What Ik Onkar and the Khanda actually say Ik Onkar opens the Mool Mantar and is the first thing written in the Guru Granth Sahib: the numeral one, then Onkar. One creator, and by extension one humanity, which is why it carries the weight it does. Ik Onkar is the closer transliteration, while Ek Onkar and Ek Omkar are how most people type it, and Ek Onkar Satnam is the fuller opening phrase. Waheguru is a different thing again: it is the name Sikhs use for God in simran, not a symbol you can hold. It is worth saying plainly that Ik Onkar and Om are not versions of each other. Different scripts, the Gurmukhi character for Ik Onkar and the Devanagari one for Om, different traditions, and they do not substitute for one another. If you are buying for a Sikh household and you are not certain which of the two you are looking at, that is the single mistake worth avoiding here, and it is an easy one to make from a thumbnail.
