Chalcedony, pronounced kal-seh-duh-nee, refers to many cryptocrystalline quartz minerals, including agate, jasper, chrysoprase, and onyx. The term cryptocrystalline lends to a rock texture so subtle that the crystals within cannot be seen with a standard microscope.
