About
An RJ45 connector without a transformer is the connector alone — housing, contacts and shell, with no isolation magnetics inside. The transformer sits on the PCB instead, which keeps the magnetics choice with your PHY vendor and usually lowers connector cost and height. TeleWire Technology manufactures 116 of them in Taiwan. Your PHY vendor specifies its own magnetics , qualified with the silicon. The port carries no Ethernet — RJ45 housings are widely used for serial and console interfaces needing no isolation. Height or cost is the constraint — a discrete jack is shorter and cheaper than the equivalent MagJack.
