Accessible Toilets

About

Accessible Toilets Buying Guide This collection holds raised height toilets for the home, designed to make sitting down and standing up easier. It includes Caroma Liano Easy Height, Urbane II, Urbane II Luxe and Contura II suites, the Decina Renee Ezi Height rimless suite, Caroma bidet suites, and Lafeme Crawford, Sesto and Autolux smart toilets. They suit older people, people with limited mobility, taller users and anyone planning to age in place. What is the difference between ambulant and accessible toilets? An ambulant toilet is for people with limited mobility who do not use a wheelchair, such as people with arthritis or a walking aid. An accessible toilet is a larger room designed for wheelchair users or people who need a carer's help, with space for a wheelchair to turn. People often search for a "DDA toilet" when they mean either of these. What height is an accessible toilet? AS 1428.1, the Australian standard for access and mobility, sets a seat height of 460 to 480mm for ambulant and accessible toilets. Pan heights in this range, measured without the seat, are 435mm on the Caroma Liano Easy Height and 440mm on the Urbane II, Urbane II Luxe and Contura II. The seat adds to that height, so check the finished height with the seat fitted. Does a raised toilet make a bathroom compliant? Not on its own. Compliance with AS 1428.1 depends on the whole room, including clear floor space, the position of the pan, grab rails, the seat and the flush control. A raised height toilet is one part of the fit-out. For a home that needs to meet a standard, ask a qualified access consultant or occupational therapist to check the plan. How far does an accessible toilet project from the wall? Projection matters in a small room. The Caroma Invisi Series II versions project 570mm, the Liano Easy Height and Urbane II Luxe wall faced suites 655mm, and the Urbane II close coupled bidet suite 700mm. Allow enough room in front of the toilet for a walking frame or a carer. Are bidet toi
