Brushed brass vs antique brass: choosing the right tone Brushed brass has a muted, satin-gold appearance with a PVD or lacquer coating that resists water spots and dulling. Antique brass sits darker and warmer — closer to aged bronze — and suits traditional tapware, exposed pipework and heritage-style bathrooms. Both finishes are available across shower heads, mixers and rail sets, but stock depth is typically greater for brushed brass, which has broader designer uptake in Australian bathrooms built from 2018 onward. What comes in a brass shower set A brass shower set typically includes a wall arm, overhead rose and either a sliding rail or fixed bracket. Some sets add a handheld handshower on a hose.
