Concrete Basins

About

Concrete Basins Buying Guide Concrete basins are cast in concrete or terrazzo and sealed for use in the bathroom, giving a matte, textured surface with natural variation in every piece. This collection brings together concrete and terrazzo basins from Eight Quarters, Fienza, ADP, Otti and Nood Co, mostly above counter with a few wall hung models, in round, oval, pill, arch and fluted shapes. Is a concrete basin a good idea? A concrete basin suits a bathroom where the surface is the feature and the household is happy to follow a few care rules. Concrete can be cast in almost any shape, comes in a wide colour range and is hard-wearing once sealed. The trade-offs are that it is naturally porous and relies on its sealer, colour and texture vary from piece to piece, and it is heavy. If you want a uniform, glossy finish, ceramic is the better choice. What sizes and colours are available? Sizes run from compact bowls to wide basins. The Eight Quarters Mini Pod is 400 x 280mm with a 7.5 litre bowl, and its concrete circle is 390mm with a 10.2 litre bowl. The Fienza Alba is 362mm across and the Jada pill is 600 x 280mm. ADP's Norma is 550 x 350mm, and the Otti Hudson fluted basins come as a 400mm round and a 600mm oval. Colours include oat, white, blush, grey, charcoal, sage, Tuscan, warm grey and warm white, plus terrazzo with flecks of colour. Ordering a sample helps where it is offered. Do concrete basins have tap holes and an overflow? The concrete basins in this collection have no tap hole and no overflow. Mount the mixer on the bench or the wall, and choose a tall basin mixer or wall spout to clear the raised rim of an above counter basin. You'll need a non-overflow waste, usually 32mm. Some basins, such as the Eight Quarters terrazzo range, include a colour-matched waste, while most others are sold without one. How heavy is a concrete basin? Heavier than ceramic of the same size. The Fienza Alba weighs 7kg, the Jada round 9kg and the wall hung Blanca 22.5kg before it
