About

Grow room heating matters most in the hours you are not watching – lights-off on a January night, when a garage or loft can drop into single figures. Growth does not just slow at low temperature; nutrient uptake slows with it, and a cold root zone will stall a plant that looks otherwise healthy. Target temperatures When Aim for Lights on 24-28°C Lights off 18-22°C Root zone / reservoir 18-20°C Propagation tray 21-24°C The gap between lights-on and lights-off matters as much as the numbers. A drop of more than about 8-10°C causes condensation on cool surfaces, and condensation in late flower means rot. What to use Fan heaters – fast, and the air movement helps. Must be on a thermostat; a fan heater left running will cook a tent. Tube heaters – low wattage, gentle, ideal for taking the edge off a cold night in a small space. Heat mats for the root zone in propagation – the single highest-impact heating you can buy, because roots respond to base temperature more than air temperature. Aquarium heaters for the reservoir in an unheated space – see water chillers and heaters . Always on a thermostat A heater on a timer heats on a schedule whether the room needs it or not, which either wastes electricity or overshoots. A thermostat or controller heats to a number. This is the cheapest meaningful upgrade in a cold room – see grow room monitoring and controllers . Cheaper things to try first Insulate the space, get the tent off a cold concrete floor, run your lights at night rather than during the day, and seal draughts. Between them those often solve a winter problem for nothing. Why buy from The Hydro Bros? We are a hydroponics shop in Croydon and plenty of our customers grow in garages.
