About

American single malt is whiskey made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery in the United States. It shares its grain with Scotch, but American distillers can age it in new or used oak, so the style ranges from rich and sherried to smoky, fruity, and big on oak. Read more Pioneers like Westland in Seattle, Stranahan's in Colorado, and Westward in Portland built the category, and today it includes Virginia Distillery Company, Balcones, Few Spirits from right here in the Chicago area, and big names like Jack Daniel's and Bulleit. Expect malty cereal sweetness, dried fruit, and chocolate, with wine, sherry, beer, and peated finishes pushing the flavor in new directions. Pour it neat or with a drop of water, the way you would a single malt Scotch . Compare it with bourbon, rye, and more in our American whiskey collection.
