Each piece is both collectable and practical, reflecting Furutani’s belief that true craftsmanship should be part of daily life. The kiln was founded in 1970 in Shiga Prefecture, by Nobuo Furutani. Rooted in one of Japan’s most historic pottery regions, it became known for Nobuo’s refined use of the Kohiki style, where white slip is applied over red clay to create a soft, understated finish. His work reflected a deep respect for simplicity and the belief that ceramics should enhance the experience of daily life. This philosophy shaped the identity of the kiln and continues to define its legacy today. Hirokazu Furutani continues his family’s legacy by producing pottery with a soft Kohiki glaze that brings a warmth and rustic elegance to the table.
