Polyester Resin can mean anything from all-purpose marine fiberglass resins containing fillers, used for a wide range of general repairs, to highly specific laminating and finishing resins used for composite layups for boat building and repair. Gelcoat is a polyester primarily used as a finish on molded fiberglass. You'll see it on most fiberglass boats, on aircraft, RVs, and even on tubs and showers.
