What does SLS do in toothpaste? SLS is widely used in many cosmetics across the world as a foaming agent, and so often found in many synthetic based toothpastes. It is classed as a surfactant, meaning it reduces the surface tension of liquids, allowing them to spread more easily. It is also classed as a detergent. Why choose SLS free toothpaste? SLS is problematic for several reasons, from it’s production to its effect on our environment, as well as having negative effects on oral health.
