Soft-shell roof top tents fold and unfold using a zippered fabric system and are generally lighter and lower cost, making them a practical choice for occasional campers or weight-conscious builds. Mounting and Load Considerations A roof top tent must be mounted on a rack rated to carry its combined static and dynamic load. Most RTTs weigh between 35 and 80 kg depending on the model, and the mounting rack must be rated to at least the tent's static capacity plus the weight of occupants.
