Tubular Steps vs. Rock Sliders Tubular side steps use a single or double oval tube with welded tread plates and are suited to street-driven and light touring utes. They provide a boarding step without significantly increasing the vehicle's overall width. Rock sliders are a heavier-gauge steel plate or tube section that mounts structurally to the chassis, designed to take the weight of the vehicle on the slider when traversing obstacles — they protect the rocker panels from impact damage during off-road use. Fitment and Compatibility Side steps are vehicle-specific fitments, and most bolt directly to existing mounting points without drilling.
