About
Summing Up Patagonia Packs & Bags Patagonia's story starts in a California workshop, not a boardroom. Yvon Chouinard began hand forging climbing pitons in 1957 because nothing on the market held up to Yosemite granite, and that same refusal to accept good enough shaped Chouinard Equipment in 1965 and, later, the Patagonia clothing line launched in 1972 ( read the full story of how Patagonia got here ). Decades on, the Black Hole range is where that engineering discipline meets modern travel: postconsumer recycled ripstop, TPU laminates and Fair Trade Certified construction, born from the same do not buy what you do not need philosophy that drove the brand's 2011 Don't Buy This Jacket campaign. Three way carry system: the MLC packs convert between backpack, briefcase and duffel via a stowable, padded hip belt that doubles as a shoulder strap, with a dedicated padded laptop sleeve (16 inch on the 30L, 15 inch on the 45L) that unzips flat for airport security trays. Black Hole Cubes: the same 300 denier recycled ripstop face fabric with a TPU laminate and DWR finish, dual mesh compartments and glove friendly pulls, sized to slot straight into the MLC packs or run as standalone packing cubes. Terravia Sacoche: at 111g this is the ultralight end of the range: recycled nylon ripstop with a PU coating over a 3 litre shell that collapses into its own pocket when it is not slu
