Once a city of trade and culture, Utterwick disappeared under the advancing waters of the North Sea in the beginning of the 19th century - when Napoleon was scaring half of Europe to death. The only building to remain - seated as it was on an outcrop of granite - was the Utterwick Museum & Gallery (and gift shop)
