About

Discover the Glamour of Blue 1950s Lingerie Step into the world of old Hollywood elegance with our Helen collection: a stunning range of blue 1950s lingerie that combines vintage glamour with everyday comfort. Inspired by the iconic silhouettes and craftsmanship of mid-century design, this collection is crafted in rich mid blue satin and soft black lace for a look that’s sultry, sophisticated, and unmistakably retro. The Helen range includes a Whirlpool-stitched underwired bra, high-waisted knickers, and a six-strap suspender belt—all designed to be worn together for maximum impact, or mixed and matched with other favourites from your What Katie Did wardrobe. For even more styling options, the delicate black lace used throughout this collection is the very same you’ll find in our best-selling Celia and Priscilla ranges, making it easy to create a cohesive lingerie look with a personal twist. A Tribute to Hollywood Glamour The standout piece of the collection is the Helen Whirlpool Bra, directly inspired by the legendary Whirlpool bras made by Hollywood-Maxwell in the 1950s. Founded in 1929, Hollywood-Maxwell was one of the first Californian lingerie companies to gain national recognition in the United States. Their designs were closely associated with the glamour of the silver screen, tapping into the growing desire of American women to emulate the look of their favourite film stars. Though the brand rarely used celebrities in its advertising, it famously claimed its bras were used exclusively in Paramount motion pictures. This association with Hollywood lent their products an irresistible allure—smart, youthful, and above all, stylish. One of their most iconic innovations was patented by founder Joseph R. Bowen in 1935: a stitching technique known as Whirlpool stitching. Using concentric rings of stitches to shape and support the bust, the technique helped create the distinct, pointed silhouettes that defined mid-century fashion. Our Helen bra faithfully recreates
