About
A bookcase is among the most functional and intellectually useful pieces of furniture you can own — it stores your books, displays objects worth displaying and signals something about your interests to anyone who looks at it. Our range covers narrow and wide configurations from 3 to 7 shelves, in solid timber, engineered wood and metal finishes. Books are one of the few categories of object that most Australian households accumulate faster than they find space for. The initial solution of one shelf turns into two, then a dedicated bookcase, then a second bookcase, then a realisation that a whole wall of shelving is actually what's needed. Our bookcase range accommodates every stage of this progression. Shelf depth is the first specification to check against your collection. Most adult hardcover and paperback books fit comfortably on a 250-300mm deep shelf. Oversized coffee table books, art books and magazines need 350mm or more. Children's picture books are shallower — 200mm is typically sufficient. If you have a mixed collection, adjustable-height shelves that can be repositioned to suit different formats are particularly useful. Height and width affect both storage capacity and room proportions. Tall bookcases (1800-2100mm) maximise storage but require a room with adequate ceiling clearance and can feel imposing in a smaller room. Wide, lower bookcases (900-1200mm wide, 900-1200mm tall) work as lower room elements and double as display surfaces on top. A combination of tall and short units in the same room — particularly when fitted from floor to ceiling along one wall — creates a classic library feel. Structural stability becomes more important as bookshelves get taller and heavier. Books are dense and heavy; a full bookcase can weigh 50-100kg depending on size. Ensure wall-fixing (anti-tip brackets into studs) for any bookcase over 1.5m tall, and check that the shelf material won't bow under the weight of dense book rows — solid timber and thick MDF with interna
