The outdoor table is the centrepiece of any alfresco dining setup. An outdoor table that's actually comfortable to eat at, that doesn't wobble when food is placed on it and that survives multiple Australian summers without rusting, bleaching or warping is harder to find than it should be. Our outdoor table range focuses on the material and construction quality that determines long-term performance rather than just initial appearance. Top material is the most consequential specification. Tempered glass tops are popular for their appearance and easy cleaning but need careful handling — heavy impacts from falling objects can shatter them. Aluminium-top tables are virtually indestructible and don't require any maintenance. Teak and hardwood tops weather beautifully and can be restored with sanding and oiling, but require that periodic maintenance to stay in good condition. Compact laminate and HPL tops offer a stone-like appearance with good durability and minimal maintenance. Frame material should match the top in terms of maintenance expectations. An aluminium frame requires essentially no maintenance; a steel frame requires checking annually for rust spots, particularly in coastal Queensland and New South Wales environments where salt air is a factor. Size selection for outdoor dining tables should account for generous per-person spacing — 600mm per person along the table edge is comfortable for outdoor dining where plates, glasses and serving dishes occupy the surface simultaneously. Outdoor settings tend to use larger servingware than indoor dining, which means tables that seat a stated number at minimal spacing often feel tight in practice.
