About
Pots and planters are among the most flexible tools in any garden — they bring plants to balconies and patios that couldn't otherwise support them, allow seasonal colour to be changed with the plants, and let you grow exactly what you want exactly where you want it. Our range covers ceramic, terracotta, fibreglass, concrete and metal designs in sizes from desktop to statement floor planters. The right pot or planter is as much about the plant's needs as the visual aesthetic of the space. A beautiful pot in the wrong material or with inadequate drainage will kill the plant inside it, regardless of how carefully it's watered. Drainage is the most critical functional requirement. All pots used outdoors in Australian summer rainfall conditions need drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Most of our indoor planters also include drainage holes and come with saucers to protect surfaces. For containers without holes intended for purely decorative use, plants can be grown in a separate plastic pot and placed inside the decorative container — known as a 'pot inside a pot' setup. Material affects both aesthetics and practical performance. Terracotta is porous, allowing air and moisture exchange through the pot walls — beneficial for plants susceptible to root rot but means the pot dries out faster in hot Australian summers. This makes terracotta better suited to drought-tolerant plants than thirsty ones. Glazed ceramic pots retain moisture longer and come in the widest range of colours and finishes. Fibreglass looks like concrete or terracotta but is dramatically lighter — important for large balcony planters where weight loading is a concern. Concrete and stone planters are heavy but extremely durable and suit Australian outdoor conditions well. Size selection should give the plant adequate root space. Most people start with a pot too small — a container that restricts root growth limits the plant above it. For a larger shrub or mature plant, a 40-50cm diameter pot is the pr
