About
A sideboard does the quiet, essential work of keeping a dining room functional — storing table linens, serving ware and bottles while providing a surface for serving dishes, lamps or artwork. Our range covers narrow and wide configurations in timber, white and mixed-material finishes suited to contemporary and traditional Australian dining rooms. The sideboard is one of those pieces of furniture that every well-functioning dining room eventually needs, even if it takes a few years of cluttered shelves and overloaded drawers elsewhere to realise it. It provides the storage infrastructure that lets a dining room work as more than just a room with a table in it. Function first: the most useful sideboard configuration combines deep lower cupboards (for bulkier items like serving bowls, wine bottles and table linen) with a combination of smaller drawers (for cutlery, candles, napkin rings, placemats) and potentially an open shelf or display section. Some sideboards include a glass-front section or open shelving for display, which is useful if you have servingware or bottles worth showing. Height matters for a sideboard's second job: as a buffet surface. A sideboard at 850-900mm height works as a serving surface during a dinner party — dishes can be placed on top for a buffet-style meal. Lower sideboards at 750-800mm look more furniture-like and blend better into a living room if that's where they're positioned. Width is the most variable dimension. A narrow sideboard at 90-100cm suits a smaller dining room or tight wall; wider options at 150-180cm provide substantially more storage and visual presence but require a generous wall. In a larger dining room, a 180cm sideboard can anchor an entire wall and balance a long dining table. Timber finishes — oak, pine, walnut — are warm and suit the natural material direction that has dominated Australian interior design for the past several years. White and off-white sideboards work in almost any setting and make smaller rooms fee
