About

The Resurgence of a Piedmontese Treasure Arneis, which literally translates to "little rascal" in the local Piedmontese dialect, earned its nickname because it is notoriously difficult to grow. Nearly extinct in the mid-20th century, this ancient variety was saved by a handful of dedicated producers in the Roero hills, just across the Tanaro River from Barolo. Today, Arneis has reclaimed its rightful place as the premier white wine of Piedmont , offering a sophisticated, aromatic alternative to the region’s dominant red varieties. The Character of Roero The best Arneis comes from the sandy, shell-rich soils of the Roero DOCG . This unique terroir imparts a distinct mineral lift and floral intensity that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. On the Palate: Arneis is celebrated for its medium-to-full body and low acidity, featuring a seductive bouquet of white flowers, ripe pear, apricot, and almond. The Finish: It often concludes with a signature touch of pleasant bitterness—reminiscent of grapefruit pith or white pepper—which makes it an exceptional food wine. Our Curated Selection Our collection features benchmark producers who have mastered the art of taming this "little rascal": Roero Arneis DOCG: Featuring the gold standards of the region, including estates like Vietti , Bruno Giacosa , and Ceretto , known for their purity and structural elegance. Modern Classics: Expressive, fruit-forward bottlings from Fontanafredda and Damilano that showcase the grape’s versatility and immediate charm. Langhe Arneis: Approachable and vibrant selections from the surrounding hills, perfect for everyday enjoyment. Gastronomic Versatility Because of its balanced weight and aromatic complexity, Arneis is a "gastronomic" white wine. It pairs beautifully with the rich flavors of Northern Italian cuisine, including Vitello Tonnato, tajarin pasta with sage butter, and creamy risottos. It is also an excellent companion for fresh seafood, herb-roasted chicken, and soft cheeses. Shop Arne
