The Historic Walled Estate & Terroir Calon Ségur is one of the few remaining completely enclosed single-block ( enclos ) estates in the Médoc, with 55 hectares of vineyards surrounded entirely by a historic stone wall. Deep Gravel & Clay Soils: The estate sits on a thick layer of River Gironde gravel over a clay subsoil. This unique combination retains key moisture during dry vintages while forcing vines to root deeply, imparting robust structure, dark fruit intensity, and firm, muscular tannins. The Cabernet Evolution: Over recent decades, the estate has increased its plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon (often making up 70% to 80% of the Grand Vin blend), giving modern vintages greater precision, high natural acidity, and refined aromatic focus.
