About
Terroir & Blend Dynamics The distinct character of Château Cheval Blanc stems from its unique geological position and atypical vineyard proportion. Complex Soil Mosaic: Situated on gravelly and clay soils over hardpan, the vineyard benefits from diverse soil types that combine the power and richness of Pomerol with the elegance and freshness of Saint-Émilion. Cabernet Franc Prominence: Unlike most Saint-Émilion estates dominated heavily by Merlot, Cheval Blanc’s vineyard features approximately 52% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This high proportion of Cabernet Franc imparts signature notes of floral violet, dark fruit, mint, and fine tobacco leaf. Cellar Longevity: Vinified plot by plot in custom-designed concrete vats and aged in 100% new French oak barrels, the Grand Vin is constructed to develop over decades, evolving complex tertiary notes of truffle, cedar, and leather with bottle age. Labels Featured in Our Collection Château Cheval Blanc (Grand Vin): The estate’s flagship release. Famed for its combination of aromatic intensity, seamless tannic structure, and concentration. Le Petit Cheval: The official second wine of the estate, created in 1988. Sourced from specific vineyard blocks, it shares the refinement of the flagship bottling in an earlier-drinking profile. Le Petit Cheval Blanc: A rare, highly sought-after dry white wine produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc plots within the estate's terroir, offering crisp acidity and citrus-mineral depth.
