An Anomaly of Terroir: The Three Gravel Croupes While Saint-Émilion is predominantly known for limestone plateaus and clay-heavy soils that favor Merlot, Château Figeac possesses a completely unique geology. The estate spans 54 hectares resting upon three distinct gunflint gravel mounds ( croupes ) .
