Dating back to the 17th-century Domaine de Léoville estate, the property was divided in the 19th century. Since the late 1800s, it has been preserved and elevated by the Delon family, currently directed by the visionary Jean-Hubert Delon. The winemaking philosophy at Château Léoville-Las Cases centers on creating an uncompromising, taut, and monumental red wine. By focusing on fruit harvested from its walled Grand Clos vineyard and utilizing rigorous selection practices, the Delon family crafts a world-renowned style celebrated for its Pauillac-like graphite drive, intense dark fruit density, and immense cellar potential. Terroir & Viticulture Soil & Geography: The core of the estate lies in the 55-hectare Grand Clos , a walled vineyard situated directly adjacent to the Gironde estuary. Deep Garonne gravel mounds ( croupes ) rest over gravelly-clay subsoils. The estuary creates a unique microclimate that guards against spring frosts, while the deep clay subsoil stores vital hydration for the vines during hot summer months. Grape Varieties & Farming: Cabernet Sauvignon (~75–85%): Defines the structural core of the Grand Vin , imparting laser-like focus, firm tannins, dark cassis, graphite, and lead-pencil notes.
